Everybody I know who has a dog usually calls him "Rover" or "Spot". I call mine Sex. Now, Sex has been very embarrassing to me. When I went to the City Hall to renew the dog's license, I told the clerk that I would like a license for Sex. He said, "I would like to have one too!" Then I said, "But she is a dog!" He said he didn't care what she looked like. I said, "You don't understand. ... I have had Sex since I was nine years old." He replied, "You must have been quite a strong boy." When I decided to get married, I told the minister that I would like to have Sex at the wedding. He told me to wait until after the wedding was over. I said, "But Sex has played a big part in my life and my whole world revolves around Sex." He said he didn't want to hear about my personal life and would not marry us in his church. I told him everyone would enjoy having Sex at the wedding. The next day we were married at the Justice of the Peace. My family is barred from the church from then on.

When my wife and I went on our honeymoon, I took the dog with me. When we checked into the motel, I told the clerk that I wanted a room for me and my wife and a special room for Sex. He said that every room in the motel is a place for sex. I said, "You don't understand. ... Sex keeps me awake at night." The clerk said, "Me too!"

One day I entered Sex in a contest. But before the competition began, the dog ran away. Another contestant asked me why I was just looking around. I told him that I was going to have Sex in the contest. He said that I should have sold my own tickets. "You don't understand," I said, "I hoped to have Sex on TV." He called me a show off.

When my wife and I separated, we went to court to fight for custody of the dog. I said, "Your Honor, I had Sex before I was married but Sex left me after I was married." The Judge said, "Me too!"

Last night Sex ran off again. I spent hours looking all over for her. A cop came over and asked me what I was doing in the alley at 4 o'clock in the morning. I said, "I'm looking for Sex." -- My case comes up next Thursday.

Well now I've been thrown in jail, been divorced and had more damn troubles with that dog than I ever foresaw. Why just the other day when I went for my first session with the psychiatrist, she asked me, "What seems to be the trouble?" I replied, "Sex has been my best friend all my life but now it has left me for ever. I couldn't live any longer so lonely." and the doctor said, "Look mister, you should understand that sex isn't a man's best friend
so get yourself a dog."

Day nine was yesterday. I am thankful that I am not addicted to online-activities, (anymore) lj, nothing....I'm only addicted to life.

Day Ten...tonight!

I am thankful for Dunkin Donuts....pistachio icecream! YUMMMMMMM! Nicole finally decided to prove she lived. She has been gone three days staying with her boyfriend who lives closer to the courts. She has a trial all this week.

There is melon progress but that evidence will come on the weekend because right now I am going to relax on the sofa and catch Project Runway!

The Gratitude Project, Day Five

I am gratified that I have chosen to work in the medical field because it has served me well in many ways and especially today when in all stupidity, I grabbed for the soldering iron and burned the hell out of my forefinger and thumb. It still burns now. The accident happened about two hours ago. On the plus side, the project is looking good and I'll take a picture of the finished product tomorrow.

Last night, I felt energetic and so I switched my bedroom around. It gives testimony that I am a full-fledge Gemini who desires change.

Nicole asked me if I'd like to go see a scary movie tomorrow evening. I think it will be fun so I said yes.

I'd like to hang a mirror, two pictures and a shelf but....my drill is STILL over by Amaury's place. I miss my baby. Yeah...that drill is one of my babies.

I have my eye on a CD organizer at The Container Store so depending on my mood manana, I may swing over and pick it up. I have over 2000 Music CD's to organize. Since I have put most of my music on the IPOD, I haven't paid much attention to the disc's.

Tomorrow should prove to be an eventful, easy-going day.

I have lazed around long enough on the sofa. I watched, "The Accidental Tourist" with William Hurt, Kathleen Turner and Geena Davis. Geena Davis reminds me of a friend named Maria. I haven't seen Maria for over 20 years. I really should look her up in the phone book. Speaking of ole friendships, I've tried to contact Marty, who is actually listed in the phone book but that phone was busy or taken off the hook.

So I have just gotten out of the shower. Outside, it is dreary and muggyish but somehow peaceful. I feel fresh and calm.

I will be happy if I find my cord to the charger for my camera, so I'm going down to the basement to start on the search. I'll also put in a load of clothes while I'm there AND foil the rest of the glass pieces of Spiderman, so that I can start soldering tomorrow. It is going to look GREAT! (At least I think so!)

I have spent 18 hours on my project so far. It will probably take me at least two hours to foil. Foiling is the process of wrapping a thin piece of copper around each individual piece of glass cut out. Spiderman consists of nearly two-hundred pieces and is a good 24 X 24 inches total.

Arrived at work 7am to a mess in the ER but I organized and cleaned it up quickly. The rest of the day up, until 6pm, was conveniently slow and I took advantage of it by playing Sudoku online, chatting with Martha and keeping up with baseball games. Cubs won, so Woohoo!. As far as Sudoku goes, I haven't beat the time of 5:05 but one day I will.

I didn't mind Martha going off to dinner at 6pm even though the printer was suddenly screaming out SWAMP YOU with WORK NOW THAT YOU ARE ALONE (sudden rush of patients). Kai came down to help me and I love working with him because I learn so many cool things. He has been a tech for more than 30 years. I was in the reading room, turning in the paperwork on a finished CT scan when one of the Residents asked the X-ray techs, "What happened?" One of the X-ray techs answered, "I dunno. I think they are all Taste of Chicagoers." Perhaps for the X-Ray department the patients resulted because of the event, though I find it difficult to believe. Many of my patients had various reasons for getting a CT other than something happening to them at the Taste such as:

1. An older lady visiting her nephew and his wife (she hailed from Massachusetts) went to watch the Red Sox game. (R. Sox beat W. Sox 9-6). 3rd Inning, one of the balls nailed her on the forehead. It was foul ball to top it off! (She didn't even get to keep the ball! ::appalled::) She and I engaged in a conversation about baseball greats and she mentioned Ted Williams being her favorite. I actually have a picture of him in an antique frame SOMEwhere in my basement. At one time, I was interested in collecting pictures (to design a tv/sports room) of all the baseball Hall of Famers. I told this lady, "I'm a Cubs fan first because not only was I born and raised here but when I was a teenager, I took the neighborhood boys (avg 10 years old) to many of the games. It is good memories for me, so imo I must support the team in honor of good times and memories; however, if I chose a 2nd team, it is definately the Red Sox. I witnessed a great team spirit of The Bostonian when I lived there." She beamed at me! Any hint of injury was absent on the CT images which made me happy.

2. I performed an abdomen/pelvis scan on a young man who is originaly from South Africa (I love their accents just about as much as Australian accents). He wasn't at the Taste. Anyway, he had such a different name (Chaim which is pronounced Hi am). It is a Hebrew name. His wife and nine-month daughter accompanied him. I enjoyed talking to them about South Africa and I couldn't help a play or two with the baby. She had the hugest little dear-shaped-blue eyes.

3. I found it awesome that an 89-year-old woman was so sane and keenly aware of her surroundings. It was so neat to have a conversation with her as we exchanged travel stories, what countries we have visisted. Her traveled list was HUGE. BUT, she had never visited South America. Most 89 year old patients exhibit confusion and extreme pain (lots of broken hips). I did a CT of her head. The doctors ordered it because she told them she was experiencing dizziness. (typical prognosis) Anyway, she wasn't at the Taste.

4. I was surprised to find a co-worker on my patient list. I scolded him when I picked him up to take him to my department for scan. "I KNOW you don't like work THAT much so you shouldn't be here on your off time!" He laughed and said, "I am being scanned by a tech who knows what she is doing which automatically puts me in a good mood." Anyway, he wasn't at the Taste. Compliments like that always make me feel good!

5, 6, 7, 8, etc., I could go on and on with more than 30 patient stories, all unique but alas I digress: NONE of them went to the Taste!

So...for those people who are not Chicagoans or who have never been to the Taste and don't know what the hell I'm talking about, I'll divulge. It is the 26th Annual Event held in Grant Park where local restaurant owners bring their tastes.

My sister invited me to go to it about two years ago and though I don't particularly care for it because I think its over-rated and expensive, the free -Sheryl Crow- tickets finally won me over. I didn't get to see her!!!! No big deal though. I realize I got the most pleasure out of accompanying my sister. Diane is great fun at times. The reason I don't care for the Taste is that I don't find pleasure in trying to weave my way through crowds wherein much of that is spent really trying to avoid the shoe stepping.

I'm a bit sleepy but I haven't figured out how to turn off my mind (Damn ADD! hehe) so I most likely will not lay my head on OH THOSE TWO SOFT but firm pillows (meaning I'm gonna sleep like a baby tonight) until about 12ish. I'll relax. I'll kick back and be a man (pick up the TV control and change channels) with a WO in front!

So, I've been out of the loop for the pass two weeks. Now, life is finally getting into a neat little routine since I'm all settled into the new place. So I set up with AT&T but the phone line wasn't working properly and I had to wait a week and a half because I made an appointment with the service tech to come out. He fixed the line. I really didn't connect the dsl service until today although I've had the box sitting in the living room for nearly two weeks. I like it! I like having a land phone too!

I like my new roommate. We have a lot in common and a lot that is different. It is a nice balance. I was just hoping for someone I could get along with but I got more. I've made a good friend. We had two cookouts already. The first one she invited her boyfriend and then three others over. The second, I invited my parents and sister over. My sister has slept over here twice. She finds it comfortable and she too likes Nicole.

We do NOT like the upstairs tenant but more on that later.

I'm still not done hanging pictures although most of them are up. Everything has found its place. I'm really happy with this situation.

Anyway, hope all is doing well and I'll be catching up on reading everyone's LJ's in the next week.

Internet service

Ok, now that I have the phone problem solved via a better phone...I want a better situation for internet. Currently, I am paying $60.00/month for JUST internet service alone (Comcast) which seems absolutely ridiculous. I don't care for SBC because I heard they suck. (My brother had them as well) ryanfirewitch suggested VoIP so I took it upon myself to do a little research and it sounds great only I haven't beat the $60.00/month yet. There was a service plan for $85.00/month to have the phone line via the internet connection but that is getting more expensive instead of cheaper. Course, I have only just begun the research, so we'll see. It wouldn't be bad to have phone line as a backup. Her cell phone still isn't working inside the apartment.

Any suggestions besides Ryan's (for those who live in Chicago area)? In particular I'm interested in internet connection. VoIP would be great if we end up paying less than $60/month.
Seems $60.00/month could be beat though. I think Comcast is getting absolutely ridiculous. They have some special going for $19.00/month for four months for existing cable customers, but I guess until I call tomorrow, I don't know if that cable is referring to television. We have DIRECTV, so we don't need their high expensive cable tv service...and we got it for much less than paying them $87.00/month. Shoot...that was a basic package with maybe one or two HBO's included.

Anyway, I await some suggestions!!

I guess Nicole and I are going to have to give in to a land phone unless we find some way to get good reception inside the apartment cause neither one of us are getting it.

Is there a secret to getting better reception? We really don't want a land phone if we can help it.

We both use cingular. And before anyone suggest using another company, I refuse because my son has cingular and I can talk to him free because we both use the same. But really, its not the company....I just wonder if there may be a better branded cell phone for reception.

Who would think one could have so much fun in the children's playground at McDonalds? I offered to watch Chase, my nephew, to give my sister a rest. So I took him off, out of the house, and headed to McDonalds where I bought him chicken Mcnuggets and fries. I promised him that if he ate all his food, we could come back later to play. He DID eat all his food and then we left to go pick up my son at his grandmothers.

All those dinosaur figures my son was given when he was little, he gave to Chase. My son started his collection when he was five years old. I bought him the first dinosaur figure at the discovery place. Anyway, Chase is four now and he's into them. Johnny is into skateboarding and it made me so proud that he wanted to pass his stuff on to his youngest cousin.

So we ordered pizza for dinner. Chase ATE all his pizza. I took him and Johnny to McDonald's for icecream and as I promised Chase...we headed toward the Mccy D playground. Down the slides we went. Yes, WE. Johnny and I joined him. I snapped lots of pictures. I let Johnny snap pictures and I even let Chase snap pictures. We had SO much fun.

Tomorrow, Chase is going to spend the night over at Johnny's but with me. Johnny's father doesn't mind (and he doesn't bother me anyway) even though Chase is related to Johnny by my side of the family. We'll have fun, I'm sure. I'm going to be giving the boys their own private fire show!

Yep...lots of pictures forthcoming when I return. ;-)

Movie Spurts

In the face of death, we can find life as is discovered in this movie called, "Elizabethtown."

I get sentimental sometimes, and this movie beckoned my sensitivity roots enough to produce some soft tears. I cried and it felt good.

Anyway, I enjoyed this movie because it was about life and death.

At the funeral, in the movie, people's personalities come alive in the face of death. It reminded me of what happened recently at my own family's gathering, in fact. As sad as death sounds, this movie actually had a happy tone. That could be why I liked the movie. It was about surviving, at least in my perspective.

This movie also moved me because it was about different kinds of losses. Death by getting fired, death by losing someone, death by watching confidence in oneselves run away for a little bit...all that. But then there is life and people, friends and family that exist to pull us through and give us strength. If we take a deep look, it is a beautiful experience.

Anyway, I'm off to bed. It has been a fulfilling day.
